Kaspersky says 10 Russian firms hurt by new virus-encoder
MOSCOW, Mar 3 (PRIME) -- Kaspersky has uncovered a series of target attacks on Russia’s financial and transport companies with the use of an unknown virus-encoder, the antivirus software maker said on Wednesday in a statement.
“Already 10 companies have fallen victim since December 2020 until now. The attacks committed by Russian-speaking group RTM exploit the earlier unknown program encoder Quoter,” Kaspersky said.
The initial infection is done through distribution of phishing letters as the perpetrators use the topics to make people open the letter with a link or an enclosure with a hidden Trojan.
